The Committee would like to thank all the Members who have given their time lately to come up and help out with all the shoots we've been holding in the past month. It is great to see so many members willing to give their time to help the Club put on the quality shoots we are getting known for.
Thank you to everyone involved, your efforts have been much appreciated.

Carl was a keen supporter of the Tauranga and Mount Clubs.
The Committee and Members extend their condolences to Carls Family and Friends.

                Ian Crowe

Ian pushing the button at the April 2014 sporting shoot.

The 4th Sunday Practice days have been very successful,we are averaging between 20-30 shooters coming up for some practice.
Not only are a lot of club members coming up to work on their shooting, but a lot of first time shooters are coming along to try clay target shooting and we have generated a good number of new members from this day.
DTL is available,we usually set one trap on straight aways for new shooter coaching, the skeet field is open and lot of people are trying out skeet. Its a good day to try something new as theres not the pressure of competition days.

Timely safety reminder if you are using a 20 gauge and a 12 gauge at the club, keep the ammo well seperated.
Very important if you use a 20 gauge, and then change to a 12g,to check your vest to make sure theres no 20g shells left behind.
The 20g shell slips down the 12g breech and will allow you to load a 12g on top of it.The consequences aren't nice for gun, shooter or anyone nearby.

Doug Gerrand has generously loaned us his little digger, and Brendon has been busy clearing a few access tracks to some good sites for sporting traps down the gully.

Tiggy has been busy chopping up firewood for the clubhouse fire.Thank you Tiggy.
Its nice to have the fire going, its been quite chilly the last couple of shoots.
Winters not far away, and up at TECT Park your closer to it.

Thursday 17th April approximately 40 Secondary School students from as far away as Taupo attended a shoot at the Club.
The event was organised by Sport Bay of Plenty, and schools from as far away Taupo attended.
The event was aimed at getting more schools in the BOP involved in clay target shooting, and this initiative can only be positive for the BOPCTA in the long term.
Despite the weather being the worst I've ever seen at the park, neither the horizontal rain or the gale force winds detered the students from enjoying a good day.
For many it was their first time trying clay target shooting.
Special thanks to all the club members who went above and beyond the call of duty to help out in the terrible weather.
(Special mention too for Bob's efforts providing quality control on the pikelets.)
Great to see Keith back back in action at the club again, and shooting like a machine as well.

Small growl.....
Please do not drive vehicles over the trap lanes.....
Offenders likely to get a clip around the ear hole from the workers who spent a lot of time building them......
Just for your interest attached below is the manual for the voice release system. Its worth a quick read just to understand how it actually works.

A few interesting points....

*The Canterbury Voice Release system features an optimised sensitivity setting
that responds to nearly all quiet calls....If your not getting targets use your outside voice.

*It is suggested that the referee should maintain a minimum distance of threeto five metres behind the competitors to eliminate false pulls.

*For safety reasons and to give the trap time to reload, a 2.0-second time out is
incorporated within the control box of this equipment. If a call is made while
the trap is reloading, the competitor may get a no target or what appears to be
a slow pull, if it catches the end of this cycle...if no bird comes out don't yell pull straight away as the trap shuts down for 2 seconds after it releases.
Click on link below to read manual

Tauranga Boys College A Team Win The Super 8 Competition.

Picture from L to R:
Brody Clark (Captain), Tom Martin, Glen Lynn, Scott Wagstaff, Nikolai Smith and Cory Baldock

Tauranga Boys College A Team won the Super 8 competition for the sixth year in a row.
This is a fantastic result made even more special by the fact that Clay Target Shooting is the only sporting event in the Super 8 competition ever to be won 6 times in a row by the same school.
This result shows the dedication and commitment not only of the shooters but also their coaches and managers over the years.  Tauranga Boys College have been very fortunate to have coaches of such high calibre and this has been reflected by the successes of the teams and individuals over the years.
A very special thank you must go out to all the coaches and managers both past and present.     Tauranga Boys College A Team did exceptionally well on an individual basis at the Super 8 competition too.
Individual results:
HOA  Brody Clark   Score of 100/100
